MORE than a dozen players representing East Lothian have been named in the Edinburgh squad for the Inter District Championship.

A squad from the Capital will take on rivals from Glasgow & The West, Caledonia Reds and the South in a round-robin format at the end of March and into April.

Twelve of the East Lothian representatives play their rugby for Premiership side Musselburgh.

And they will feel firmly at home when they host The South at Stoneyhill on March 23.

Michael Badenhorst, Paul Bogie, Matthew Crawford, Paul Cunningham, Ben Heber, Rory Hindhaugh, Neil McNairn, Craig Owenson, Danny Owenson, Rory Smith, Rory Watt and Sandy Watt are joined by Preston Lodge’s Scott Clark.

Edinburgh take on Caledonia Reds a week later before travelling to Braidholm – home of Glasgow Hutchesons’ Aloysians (GHA) – to face Glasgow & The West in the last round of fixtures. Each of the games kicks off at 3pm.

Bob McKillop, Edinburgh District head coach, said: “We are very excited about the next few weeks – whilst all coaches and players loved the Inter District Championship experience last season, we walked away feeling Edinburgh’s performance had been well below potential.

“We’ve had some good review sessions with key players and within the coaching team and will aim to put that right this year.”
