AN ADDITIONAL jumps meeting will take place at Musselburgh Racecourse on Monday (December 18).

The British Horseracing Authority confirmed the fixture following the abandonment of last Monday's meeting due to a frozen track.

Musselburgh Racecourse chief executive, Bill Farnsworth, said: “It is always disappointing to lose a fixture so we are pleased to be given this opportunity to host an additional race day.

"It will be welcomed by racegoers, owners and trainers and is a primer before we hold our traditional New Year’s Day meeting on 1 January.”

The seven-race card with prize money of £44,000 starts at 12.10pm and the feature race is the £10,000 Newcraighall Handicap Hurdle over 2m 3f (14.15pm).

Stuart Middleton, racing operations manager at the British Horseracing Authority, said: “A number of jump fixtures in the north have been lost to the weather in recent days and by staging this fixture at Musselburgh on Monday, we hope to provide opportunities for many of those horses which are ready to run.”
