TEMPORARY road closures will be in place this weekend to facilitate the delivery of a second super transformer unit to the former Cockenzie Power Station site.

The operation will see parking restrictions and road closures around the site.

East Lothian Council is implementing the restrictions overnight on Saturday through to Sunday to enable the delivery of a second super grid transformer unit to the Inch Cape development.

The transformer will be delivered from the Port of Leith to the substation being constructed at Cockenzie.

The delivery is of an "abnormal load", which necessitates the road closures.

The affected routes include the A1, A198 at Bankton Junction, B6371 (Meadowmill roundabout to East Lorimer Place), and B1348 Edinburgh Road to the site.

The B1348 Edinburgh Road will be closed from its junction with Avenue Road to its junction with Cadell Place. The closure will be in place during the early hours of the morning.

Parking suspensions will be enforced between 6pm on Saturday and 6am on Sunday on both dates.

The first transformer unit was delivered on Sunday, January 11.

Inch Cape postponed the delivery of the second unit, which was originally planned for the following Sunday.

A section of hedge at East Lorimer Place was temporarily removed for the abnormal loads to pass. This will be replanted after the second delivery.

The removed hedge has been replanted at Drummohr Cemetery to ensure its growth, and new hedging will be planted in the original spot once the deliveries are concluded.

Current roadworks at the Alder Road junction, related to utility diversion work for a new road connecting to the existing B1348 road, will be paused during the transfer of the load.
