Damian Lillard struck 40 points for the Portland Trail Blazers – including a layup with less than a second left on the clock – as his side beat the Phoenix Suns 106-104.
It looked like going into overtime with the sides deadlocked with 10 seconds left, but Lillard drove to rim past a pair of Suns players and scored two.
Phoenix attempted a half-court shot but it fell short as the buzzer signalled the end of the game, in which Lillard added 10 rebounds and CJ McCollum had 21 points.
Russell Westbrook had a disappointing night, only scoring 15 as the Okalhoma City Thunder were beaten by the Golden State Warriors 112-80.
The Thunder had upset the Warriors twice this season and were hoping to make it three in a row, but Kevin Durant shone as he scored 28 points in the win.
Steph Curry had 21 and nine rebounds as the Warriors won their second in a row.
The Minnesota Timberwolves saw off the Chicago Bulls 122-104, with Jeff Tegue getting 25 points, while the LA Lakers overcame an eight-point deficit at halftime to beat the LA Clippers 113-108 with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scoring 34.
Donovan Mitchell hit 25 points as the Utah Jazz beat the Dallas Mavericks 97-90, Kyrie Irving had 31 points, nine rebounds and eight assists as the Boston Celtics beat the New York Knicks 121-112 and the Miami Heat beat the Memphis Grizzlies 115-89.
In the night’s other game, the Philadelphia 76ers won their seventh in a row with a 116-105 win over the Orlando Magic, with Joel Embiid scoring 28 points and 14 rebounds.
