EAST Lothian’s junior bowlers claimed the first Bowls Scotland Under-21 Challenge Cup at Westermains Bowling Club at the weekend, writes Matt Osborne.
Logan Shields, Lennon Rafferty, Nathan Gallagher, Lewis Thom and Luke Cowan made it through the event unbeaten in the pairs/triples format to claim the title.
Meanwhile, East Lothian Bowls crowned its latest League Cup champions on Saturday afternoon.
Prestongrange edged past Elphinstone by a single shot to reclaim the Division One Cup.
Ormiston made it a league/cup double as they claimed the Division Two Cup.
Pathhead Bowling Club, despite being relegated from Division Three, rounded off their season by claiming the respective League Cup.
Tranent bounced back from missing out on promotion to Division Three by claiming the Division Four Cup at East Linton.
This weekend will see the East Lothian Bowls champion of champions crowned at Tranent Bowling Club.
The club will host the ladies’ and gents’ semi-finals and final this Saturday.
In the gents’ draw, the following clubs are still represented, with the quarter-finals due to be held yesterday (Wednesday): Gifford v Tranent (at Aberlady); Aberlady v Haddington (at West Barns); EL Co-op v Gullane (at West Barns); and East Linton v Elphinstone (at Aberlady).
In the ladies’ draw, East Linton have received a bye to the semi-final and will await the winner of Cockburnspath and North Berwick.
The other side of the draw has Haddington versus Aberlady and Gullane against Tranent, with both contests at East Linton.
The semi-finals will commence at 1pm on Saturday, with the final scheduled for a 3pm start, subject to change due to singles games taking less time.
