Preston Athletic ready for Albion Rovers cup tie test

All six of the county’s sides will be looking to progress to the third round.

Home advantage lies with Musselburgh Athletic, who take on Cowdenbeath, while Preston Athletic host Albion Rovers.

Meanwhile, Dunbar United travel to Darvel, Haddington Athletic head to Lanark United, Ormiston Primrose venture to Cowdenbeath Central while Tranent go to Kirkintilloch Rob Roy.

BUOYED by back-to-back victories, Preston Athletic will attempt to make history when they welcome Albion Rovers.

The two sides face each other for the first time this afternoon (Saturday) with a place in the third round of the South Challenge Cup at stake.

Preston enjoyed a win in the Scottish Cup and followed that up with three points against St Andrews United last weekend.

Now, they will be looking to defeat their Lowland League West opposition.

ORMISTON Primrose halted a losing streak last weekend when they fought back to secure a point against Edinburgh United.

Now, they travel to Fife looking to turn a draw into a win.

Cowdenbeath Central joined the set-up last year and were impressive in their first campaign.

That included three wins out of three against Ormiston Primrose, who will be looking to ensure that run stretches no further.

PROMISING signs so far this season mean Dunbar will travel to Darvel with a bit of confidence.

The Seasiders sit second in the top flight of the East of Scotland Football League with 15 points from a possible 18.

Now, they will be looking to take that form into the cup when they head to Darvel.

Famously, the hosts knocked Aberdeen out of the Scottish Cup in 2023.

Robbie Horn and Tranent are enjoying a fine first-ever season in the Lowland League East.

FULL of confidence, Tranent head for Kirkintilloch Rob Roy.

Top of the early Lowland League East table, Robbie Horn’s men have plenty to be happy with so far this season.

This afternoon brings the potential of a cup upset as they travel west.

If approached in the correct manner, Tranent should be too strong for their opponents.

AN 11-GAME unbeaten run came to an end last weekend when Haddington lost to Newtongrange Star.

Scott Bonar will be challenging his side to go out and start another impressive bit of form.

Their hosts sit 11th in the First Division of the West of Scotland Football League.

Haddington will be keen to continue their cup adventure and avoid any slip up.

ANOTHER two teams meet for the first time at Olivebank as Musselburgh host Cowdenbeath.

The two sides will soon become more familiar as they also face each other in the Lowland League East.

Musselburgh sit 11th in the standings while their opponents sit immediately below them.

A win would be a real confidence-booster for either team.
