TONIGHT (Friday) marks the first step for Lee McGregor as he bids to get back to where he wants to be.
The boxing star has not fought since May last year, when he was stopped in an all-Scottish clash for the WBC Silver Featherweight crown with Nathaniel Collins.
He steps back in the ring tomorrow at Glasgow’s DoubleTree Hilton Hotel against a yet-to-be announced Argentinian opponent.
McGregor was not looking beyond this weekend but equally knew that a win was vital if he wanted to achieve his world title ambitions.
He said: “I want to go in and get the job done and do it in fashion.
“I want to look good but I am experienced enough to know it is my job, it is what I do and I want to win.
“Whatever that takes, I am prepared to do that.
“There is a wee bit of extra pressure or anxiety in terms of coming off what I am coming off and losing the last fight, then after that breaking my orbital bone in sparring.
“It has been a wee bit challenging but I am going to put that to the back of my mind and focus on doing what I am doing.
“Things are going well back home – everybody knows I have been away a lot and have found that difficult.
“I lost a couple of sponsors over Christmas and found it really challenging.
“It has been really difficult and I have had to go to the gym sometimes myself and do my own training sessions.
“I have got a small circle of people and found it really difficult but it is as good as it can be and I am confident I have done enough.
“Everything counts and if I don’t come through then it is a long, long way back.
“My full focus is on winning and winning in style.”
Twenty-nine-year-old McGregor was tipped by many for the very top of the sport.
After turning professional, he picked up British, Commonwealth and European titles.
However, defeats to Erik Robles Ayala and Collins have impacted his momentum.
Speaking to Courier Sport seven days before his bout, McGregor, who lives in the west of the county, was counting down to getting back in the ring.
He said: “Honestly, I am buzzing for it.
“I am looking forward to it.
“There have been many obstacles, many struggles, but I have been here before, been in this position before, and I am excited to be back.
“I am against a guy from Argentina.
“He is a tough, durable guy and I know that for sure.”
McGregor, who now boasts a record of 15-2-1, is hoping to make short work of his opponent.
The fighter was keen to start the comeback trail in impressive fashion.

He said: “It is a case that this is a momentum builder for me.
“I want to be back in the gym on the Monday.
“Previous fights, you are taking 10 to 12 weeks to prepare, the weight cut is horrible, and you need two months’ recovery from this kind of camp and fight.
“This time, I have trained and sparred hard and been locked in since just before Christmas.
“There was the hiccup through Christmas with the orbital bone, which gave me a few weeks off, but since just before New Year, I have been locked in and focused on making 2026 the year for me.
“That begins next week.”
