ATHLETES from East Lothian Swim Team (ELST) travelled south for the Arena Manchester Open Meet at the weekend.

The meet is an opportunity to compete amongst a competitive field ahead of the summer championship meets.

In total, nine ELST swimmers took part, with the team performing particularly strongly in the 15 and 16-year-old age categories.

Conner Aspinall (Haddington) took home an impressive six individual medals in the 15 years’ age group, including silver in the 400m individual medley (IM) and 100m freestyle, and bronze in the 200m and 1,500m freestyle, 200m IM and 200m backstroke.

Lewis Lothian (Haddington) also in the 15 years’ age group, won gold in the 50m freestyle, silver in the 50m breaststroke and bronze in the 50m butterfly.

In the 16 years’ age group, Ismail Shalaby (Tranent) won silver in the 200m IM and backstroke.

Ross Anderton (Tranent) won silver in the 100m butterfly and freestyle, and Alice Finlay (Musselburgh) won silver in the 50m backstroke.

Jamie Ward, ELST head coach, said: “It was good to travel with a group of our athletes to compete outside of Scotland.

“Allowing them to experience racing in a different environment is really valuable for development going forward and it was really promising to come away with so many strong performances.”
