THREE top athletes from East Lothian all won individual medals representing Scotland and the East district at the recent Celtic Nations cross-country international incorporating the Scottish interdistrict championships.

The event took place at Renfrew and included athletes from across the UK and Ireland.

The three athletes from North Berwick and Musselburgh all run for Lasswade.

First off was Freya Brown, from North Berwick High School, in the under-15 girls’ race against some of the best runners in the UK.

She came fourth overall and first Scot, meaning she won the interdistrict competition and led the East of Scotland team to victory.

She was followed by team-mate Howie Allison, who ran strongly from the start in the under-15 boys’ race to finish fifth overall.

This gave him a bronze medal in the Scottish inter-district event and again he led the East district to team gold.

Last up was Cerys Wright, who is only just 14 but ran up an age group in the under-17 race to represent Scotland for the first time.

She had a great run over the 6km course to get a bronze medal in the Celtic nations event and helped Scotland to victory.

All three athletes are now training towards upcoming Scottish national and schools events.
