EAST Lothian Swim Team (ELST) – made up of swimmers from Haddington, Musselburgh and Tranent swim clubs – took home 21 individual medals at the first round of the East District Championships.

Swimmers ventured across the Forth to the Michael Woods Sports & Leisure Centre in Glenrothes over the weekend.

This round covers the distance events: 400m, 800m and 1,500m freestyle, as well as the 400m individual medley (IM).

Ross Anderton (Tranent) won two gold medals (400m and 800m freestyle) and two silvers (400m IM and 1,500m freestyle) in the boys’ 16-year-old age group.

Also celebrating was Alex Taylor (Tranent), who picked up bronze medals in the 800m and 1,500m freestyle events in the same age group.

East Lothian swimmers dominated the girls’ 15-year-old age group.

Zara Krawiec (Tranent) won gold medals in each of the four events.

Lucy Hall (Haddington) and Kate Nolan (Musselburgh) pushed Krawiec all the way, with Hall picking up four silver medals and Nolan two bronze (400m and 1,500m freestyle).

Stefan Krawiec (Tranent) was also in impressive form, winning two golds in the 400m and 800m freestyle events in the boys’ 17 years’ and over age group.

In the same age group, Musselburgh’s Zach Slater won two bronze medals (400m and 1,500m freestyle) and Tranent’s Calum Peebles picked up a silver in the 400m IM.

Jamie Ward, ELST head coach, said: “The East District Championships is a major event in our calendar, with our swimmers competing against the best swimmers from the Lothians, Borders and Fife.

“I was delighted with their performances over these longer-distance events, in particular with some of the youngest members of the team who were competing over these distances for the very first time.”
