WINGER Francesca McGhie scored her third Scotland try in helping her country to victory over the USA this afternoon (Friday).

Scotland kept up their impressive run of form at WXV 2 in South Africa with a 24-14 win.

It was the visitors who started promisingly but when Scotland found their breakthrough they never looked back.

McGhie, from Musselburgh, broke the deadlock with some fancy footwork to cross the line for a 5-0 lead.

Emma Wassell doubled the advantage before Helen Nelson kicked the conversion.

Rhona Lloyd made it 17-0 in favour of Scotland before the USA got on the scoreboard just before the break.

Chloe Rollie restored the 17-point advantage and, despite the USA crossing the line for their second try, Scotland held on for the win.

North Berwick’s Liz Musgrove replaced McGhie in the closing stages of the game.

The win was Scotland’s fifth consecutive victory – something that the country last achieved before 20-year-old McGhie was born.

Scotland round off their participation in the tournament against Japan next Friday.
