SWIMMERS from East Lothian Swim Team (ELST) ventured west over the weekend to compete in the Swim West Lothian Distance Meet held at the Xcite Swimming Pool in Bathgate.

The team swam very well, considering that, for many, it was their first event of the new season, and they achieved multiple personal bests.

The following swimmers won medals in individual events across the two days:

  • Ross Anderton won two bronze medals in the 200m and 1,500m freestyle events in the boys’ 15 years and over age group;
  • Tegan Black won gold in the 800m freestyle in the girls’ 15 years and over age group;
  •  Boyd Fearnside (boys’ 13 years) won four medals: one gold (200m backstroke) and three silvers (200m butterfly, 200m and 1,500m freestyle);

  • Eilidh Fee (girls’ 13 years) won a silver medal in the 200m freestyle;
  • Lucy Fleming won a bronze medal in the 200m breaststroke in the girls’ 13 years age group;
  • Olivia Flockhart also won a bronze medal in the 200m breaststroke but in the girls’ 14 years age group;
  • Lucy Hall (girls’ 14 years) won three silver medals in the 200m butterfly, 400m freestyle and 400m individual medley (IM) events;

  • Roni Kariuki (girls’ 11-12 years) won a bronze medal in the 200m backstroke;
  • Stefan Krawiec (boys’ 15 years and over) won gold medals in the butterfly and breaststroke 200m events, as well as winning the 400m freestyle and 400m IM events;
  • Zara Krawiec (girls’ 14 years) matched her brother with four golds across all the 200m stroke disciplines;
  • Anna Lawson won a silver and a bronze medal in the 200m breaststroke and 200m freestyle respectively in the girls’ 14 years age group;
  • Carly Marshall (girls’ 13 years) won a gold in the 200m breaststroke event;
  • Jonathan McLean (boys’ 14 years) won two bronze medals in the 200m and 400m freestyle events;
  • Kate Nolan won two gold medals (400m and 800m freestyle) as well as a silver in the 200m freestyle in the girls’ 14 years age group;

  • Calum Peebles won three gold medals (200m backstroke, 200m and 800m freestyle) in the boys’ 15 years and over age group;
  • Alex Prest (boys’ 13 years) won a bronze medal in the 200m backstroke;#
  • Kirsty Sievwright (girls’ 14 years) won a bronze in the 400m IM event;
  • Ismail Shalaby (boys’ 15 years and over) won a bronze medal in the 200m backstroke;
  • Zach Slater (boys’ 15 years and over) won two silver medals in the 800m and 1,500m freestyle events;
  • Liam Warner won a bronze medal in the 200m breaststroke event in the boys’ 14 years age group;
  • Ross Winters (boys’ 11-12 years) won a silver medal in the 200m freestyle.

Jamie Ward, ELST head coach, was delighted with all the swimmers’ efforts over the weekend.

He told Courier Sport: “The team competed very well this early in the season over these longer-distance events, which augurs well for the rest of the season.”
