SAM Christopherson and daughter Clover will fly the flag for Scotland at the European surf championships later this summer.

The European Surfing Federation holds Eurosurf in Portugal at the end of July.

The duo secured their place at the international competition after impressing at the Senior Scottish National Surfing Championships near Thurso.

Sam, from Dunbar, finished second in the longboard division and was joined on the podium by daughter Clover, who took second in the women’s shortboard event.

Also a standout result was from Belhaven Surf Club member Charlie Pugh, who secured third in the under-18s.

Closer to home, the Junior National Surf Championships took place at Pease Bay late last month.

Belhaven Surf Club also saw five other podium results from its young team members.

Another talented young surfer, Tam Hood, from North Berwick, came fourth in the under-16 boys’ competition.

Chris Robison, one of the coaches, was delighted with the success.

He told the Courier: “It’s fantastic to see great results from the local junior and senior surfers from East Lothian.

“We are really lucky to have such talent and the local coaching and club network at the Belhaven Surf Centre is making competing for national titles against the best in Scotland an annual thing.”
