TRANENT Juniors boss Colin Nish paid the ultimate price as his side lost in the Lowland League Cup quarter finals.

Meanwhile there were wins for Haddington Athletic and Ormiston Primrose while Dunbar United secured a draw with title rivals Glenrothes.

Musselburgh Athletic slipped to a defeat at the hands of Dundonald Bluebell.

Tranent Juniors' 2022/23 season came to a disappointing end as they were knocked out of the Lowland League Cup at the quarter final stage at home to East Kilbride.

The visitors took a lead on 21 minutes before Tranent drew level through a coolly taken Nicky Reid penalty with five minutes to go in the opening half.

But East Kilbride were back in front early in the second half and held on to progress and bring Tranent Juniors’ season to an end.

Following the game, the county side parted company with manager Colin Nish, after the former Hibernian player led them to a fifth-place finish in the Lowland League.

In the Premier Division, Haddington Athletic were comfortable 4-1 winners away to Broxburn.

Goals from Guy McGarry (29), Logan Thomas (38), and a brace from Robbie Peffers (57 and 65) had the visitors 4-0 up.

The hosts pulled one back with 20 minutes to go but it was a comfortable afternoon for Haddington, who sit seventh in the table and face Jeanfield Swifts at home in the final game of the season.

Musselburgh Athletic were narrowly beaten 2-1 away to Dundonald Bluebell in a tight affair.

The hosts led on 27 minutes from the penalty spot before adding a second on 51 minutes.

Musselburgh pulled one back through Zach Khan on 63 minutes and despite some good chances, were unable to find an equaliser.

Musselburgh Athletic are third in the table and face Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts at home on Saturday in the final game of the season knowing they will finish third regardless of the result.

In the First Division, Dunbar United took a step closer to promotion with a 1-1 draw at home to Glenrothes, keeping their title hopes alive.

It was a huge game in the context of the title as both sides battled it out.

Dunbar knew that a win could be vital if they hoped to secure the league title.

It was the perfect start for the county side with Johnny Edmond scoring just five minutes in.

Glenrothes drew level with 30 minutes to go thanks to an own goal from Dean Whitson to secure a vital point.

The draw keeps Dunbar top of the First Division with a trip to Leith Athletic on the cards on Saturday and a home game against Camelon to round off the season the following week.

Glenrothes are one point behind them in second, though they have a game in hand.

Preston Athletic were not in action on Saturday but return to action tonight when they face Lochore Welfare away from home.

The county side sit eighth in the table with four games left to play.

Ormiston Primrose moved out of the relegation zone as they took another massive step towards safety in the Second Division with a 1-0 away win over Newburgh.

Matty Underhill grabbed the only goal of the game in the first half to give the county side a vital win.

They sit 14th in the table with six games left to play.

They face St Andrews United away from home tomorrow (Tuesday).
