THIRTY-FOUR youngsters from East Lothian Swim Team (ELST) ventured west over the weekend to compete in the East Kilbride Long Course Age Group Meet held at the Dollan Aqua Centre.

Some of the swimmers were competing for ELST in a long course pool (50m length) for the first time.

The team achieved multiple personal bests, with the following swimmers winning medals in individual events across the two days:

  • Katie Anderton won three medals in the girls’ 16 and over age group, a silver in the 100m breaststroke and two bronze medals in 200m Individual Medley (IM) and 200m breaststroke;
  • Ross Anderton (boys’ 14-15 years) secured a gold in the 50m backstroke and a silver in the 50m freestyle;
  • Archie Budgen claimed a bronze medal in the 100m backstroke in the boys’ 10-13 years age group;

  • Grace Hanak took home a bronze medal in 200 IM (girls’ 14-15 years);
  • Carly Marshall (girls’ 10-13 years) won a bronze in the 200m breaststroke;
  • Caitlin Peebles claimed four medals – two silvers (50m backstroke and 400m IM) and two bronze (100m and 200m backstroke) – in the girls’ 16 and over age group;
  • Alex Prest (boys’ 10-13 years) secured three medals – silvers in the 100m and 200m breaststroke events and a bronze in the 200m backstroke; and,
  • Rebecca Taylor (girls’ 16 and over) won a bronze in the 100m butterfly.

Andrew Ward, ELST development squad coach, was delighted with all the swimmers’ efforts over the weekend.

He said: “The team competed brilliantly, putting everything they do in training into practice.

“The team also showed great camaraderie, cheering on their teammates in every race. I was very proud of them.”
