CONFIDENCE remains high that Ormiston Primrose can not only escape relegation but climb the table.

The county side picked up a point against Tweedmouth Rangers on Saturday to edge closer to the teams above them battling to stay in the East of Scotland Football League (EoSFL) Second Division.

Ormiston also boast four games in hand over their nearest rivals Craigroyston and have a home contest with the Capital club to look forward to next month.

Richie Weir, manager of Ormiston Primrose, said: “We have said to the players to keep it in our own hands and not rely on other teams.

“We have got those teams still to play with some of the teams higher up as well.

“We will hope to pick up points there and, as you can see with the fixtures, each team can beat each other.

“Hawick Royal Albert beat Dalkeith Thistle and on their day any team can go out and give any team a game.

“We need to keep that high performance and concentration for every game.

“There has been the belief for most of the season.

“We went through a sticky patch where confidence was low but we rectified that and even the players are saying we can get out of this.

“It will be hard work and we need to go and get the points on the board.”

Ormiston also look set to be reinstated into the King Cup.

Hawick Royal Albert won a penalty shootout last month after a goalless encounter.

However, Weir told Courier Sport that it had been reported the Borders club had fielded an ineligible player and would be kicked out of the tournament, leaving Ormiston to face Dunipace in the next round.

The club’s final 11 league games of the season include a trip to the rock-bottom Borders side and second-bottom Lochgelly Albert, as well as fellow strugglers Craigroyston and Newburgh.

The 2-2 draw at New Recreation Park on Saturday was another precious point, coming against a Tweedmouth Rangers side who sit eighth in the table.

Weir felt there was only one team looking likely to go on and win it as the second half progressed.

He said: “We were pushing to get the winner and they were holding on for the draw.

“The players have taken that on board.”

Now, Ormiston face the short trip over the county border to face Arniston Rangers on Saturday before hosting Dalkeith Thistle on Tuesday.

Arniston sit fifth in the standings and retain hopes of challenging for promotion, while Dalkeith sit one place above them.

Weir added: “It is always a tough place to go. [Arniston] are a good footballing team and they battle for each other.

“We have got to go and match their effort, put in 100 per cent and hopefully we can come away with something.

“We went there last year and they got an equaliser in the last minute.

“If we can replicate the performance from that day, I am confident we can get a point, if not all three.”
