HISTORY has been made after Craigielaw won the East Lothian Winter League for the first time in more than a decade.

A home win over relegated North Berwick last Sunday was enough to secure the club’s first league title in 15 years.

The win was long-expected but had come under some pressure late in the season due to defeat at Musselburgh and draws against Tantallon and Haddington.

The lead going into the last match was just a point over Tantallon and Craigielaw knew that they had to beat North Berwick to make sure of the title.

In the end, Tantallon fell to a surprise defeat at home to Gullane.

The league winners did their bit as well dispatching North Berwick.

The consistent Craig Davidson and Ross Colquhoun saw off the North Berwick top pairing, then Guy Dalziel and Angus Carrick recorded a win at No 3.

In between, Kenny Glen and Mark Watt fought hard for the halved match that secured the league title, before Sean McGarvey and Dean Glass added their point.

Mark Reid and Scott Cunningham did likewise in the anchor tie to spark celebrations for Craigielaw.

A spokesperson for the victorious team said: “In a great season for the whole team, Craig Davidson and Ross Colquhoun led the way in the player performance table, but there were no fewer than seven Craigielaw players in the top 10.”
