LEAGUE action takes centre stage this afternoon as five county sides battle it out for three points.
Tranent Juniors are not in action having played in midweek, which leaves the county’s East of Scotland Football League (EoSFL) taking to the pitches.
The Premier Division duo of Haddington Athletic and Musselburgh Athletic have home advantage as they welcome Vale of Leithen and Penicuik Athletic.
Title-chasing Dunbar United make a trip to Midlothian to face Whitehill Welfare in the First Division while Preston Athletic are also heading to the neighbouring county.
Paul Currie’s men travel to Newtongrange Star, who are pushing Dunbar for the title.
Finally, Ormiston Primrose make it a trio of teams heading to Midlothian as they go to Easthouses Lily MW.
All five games get under way at 2.30pm.
Musselburgh Athletic (blue) ran out comfortable winners against relegation-threatened Oakley United but face a tough test against Penicuik Athletic
Match of the Day
Musselburgh Athletic v Penicuik Athletic
East of Scotland Football League – Premier Division
Musselburgh Athletic last five games: WWWLW
FRESH from a commanding victory over Vale of Leithen, Musselburgh Athletic look to make it four wins in a row.
The Olivebank side have moved up to second in the top flight of the EoSFL.
However, they will face a stern test against Penicuik Athletic, who are also keen to secure the runners up spot at the very least.
Four points separate the two teams but the Midlothian outfit have the benefit of a game in hand.
The spoils were shared in the reverse fixture earlier this season.
Haddington Athletic (maroon) take on Vale of Leithen this afternoon
Haddington Athletic v Vale of Leithen
East of Scotland Football League – Premier Division
Haddington Athletic last five games: WWDWW
UNBEATEN in six games, Haddington Athletic will be out to make it a magnificent seven this afternoon.
The Hi Hi took a point against Penicuik Athletic last Saturday while Vale of Leithen were being thumped 10-2 by Musselburgh Athletic.
The Borders side has changed manager since then and will be hoping to pick up a result to move off the bottom of the table.
In contrast, Haddington’s form in recent weeks has eased them away from the relegation zone.
Only goal difference is keeping them below Dundonald Bluebell in seventh spot.
Preston Athletic (blue) face a tough trip to Newtongrange Star
Newtongrange Star v Preston Athletic
East of Scotland Football League – First Division
Preston Athletic last five games: LLWLD
A HEAVY defeat at fellow promotion chasers Luncarty last time out was a real blow in Preston’s bid to finish in the top three.
Mid-table looks a real possibility for the Pennypit men unless they can string together a series of impressive performances and results.
The first opportunity comes against a Newtongrange Star who are determined to bounce back to the Premier Division at the first time of asking.
They sit seven points clear of the chasing pack in the promotion places and will be keen to put pressure on table-topping Dunbar United.
Three points would be very much welcomed by Paul Currie and his team but they face a tough task against a team who won 4-0 at the Pennypit recently.

Whitehill Welfare v Dunbar United
East of Scotland Football League – First Division
Dunbar United last five games: WWLWW
FORTY-FOUR points from a possible 54 shows the impressive form of Dunbar United this campaign.
Only Preston Athletic and Glenrothes have taken all three points against them in the league as they look to return to the Premier Division in style.
A trip to third-bottom Whitehill Welfare presents another opportunity to extend that good form.
The Midlothian side are in the relegation places, though, and will battle for everything as they look to avoid the drop.
Ormiston Primrose (black and white) came from a goal down to defeat Easthouses Lily and face them again today
Easthouses Lily MW v Ormiston Primrose
East of Scotland Football League – Second Division
Ormiston Primrose last five games: DWLDL
BACK-TO-BACK games without defeat has given a boost to Ormiston Primrose’s bid to avoid relegation.
The county side trail Edinburgh United by four points but will see a trip to Easthouses Lily MW as a chance to gain some ground.
The Midlothian side sit 12th in the 18-team Second Division and nine points better off than Richie Weir’s men.
Victory for Ormiston could also be enough to lift them above Craigroyston and provide another psychological boost.
The spoils were shared in the reverse fixture at the end of last year and Ormiston will be hoping for at least the same again.
