ONLY two East Lothian football sides are in action this afternoon.

Cup football dominates the fixtures in tier five and six of the Scottish football pyramid.

As a result, only Dunbar United and Musselburgh Athletic face competitive ties as both attempt to progress in the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup.

Dunbar travel south to face Gretna 2008 in a 3pm kick-off while Musselburgh Athletic host Edinburgh University at 2.30pm.

Match of the Day

Musselburgh Athletic v Edinburgh University

East of Scotland Qualifying Cup Round Four

Musselburgh Athletic last five games: LWWWL

LOSING is not a habit that Musselburgh have become accustomed to since Liam Burns succeeded Joe Hamill in the hot seat.

Burns and his team have moved up the table but will need to pick themselves up after losing to Kilwinning Rangers in the South Region Challenge Cup last weekend.

That contest finished 3-2 in favour of the Ayrshire side and Musselburgh will be hoping history does not repeat itself.

The Capital club sit second bottom of the Scottish Lowland Football League (SLFL) and have conceded 70 goals in their 18 matches.

It is a step up for Musselburgh but with home advantage they will feel they have a good chance of progressing.

Gretna 2008 v Dunbar United

East of Scotland Qualifying Cup Round Two

Dunbar United last five games: LWLWL

GARTCAIRN ended Dunbar United’s bid for South Region Challenge Cup glory last weekend.

Now, the Seasiders will be hoping to spring a surprise as they face a Gretna 2008 side playing two tiers above them in the Scottish football pyramid.

The two sides were due to meet in August but the match was postponed.

Fully three months later and the clubs will battle it out to reach the third round of the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup.

Kevin Haynes and his team are top of the First Division in the East of Scotland Football League after a dozen fixtures.

Meanwhile, their hosts sit 16th in the SLFL having won five of their 18 league contests.
