CLASHES near the top of the table are on the cards for two East Lothian sides this afternoon (Saturday).

Dunbar United welcome Luncarty in the First Division of the East of Scotland Football League (EoSFL) while Preston Athletic head to Kinnoull in the same division.

Meanwhile, Tranent Juniors will be out to continue their impressive start to the campaign when they head to Gretna 2008 in the Scottish Lowland Football League.

Musselburgh Athletic and Haddington Athletic are both away from home in the top flight of the EoSFL.

Musselburgh make the trip to Oakley while Haddington head to Sauchie.

Finally, Ormiston Primrose host Newburgh Juniors in the EoSFL Second Division.

Each of the EoSFL games kicks off at 2.30pm and Tranent’s match starts at 3pm.

Match of the Day

Dunbar United v Luncarty

East of Scotland Football League First Division

Dunbar United last five games: DLWWD

JUST two points separate Dunbar United and Luncarty at the top of the EoSFL First Division.

Three teams will gain promotion to the top tier of the EoSFL and already it looks like it could be an entertaining fight for those places.

Luncarty come into the game having lost just one of their opening seven league encounters but there are only four points separating them from ninth-placed Leith Athletic.

Dunbar had started promisingly but lost out at Preston Athletic last weekend and then a late sucker punch denied them all three points at Camelon Juniors in midweek.

Victory for the Seasiders would see them leapfrog their title rivals and move back into the promotion places.

Scottish Lowland Football League

Tranent Juniors last five games: WWLDD

TRANENT made it back-to-back home wins after a six-goal thriller against Caledonian Braves in midweek.

Now, they will be hoping to take that form on the road when they make the journey south to face Gretna 2008.

Colin Nish’s men have not tasted defeat in the league since the opening day loss to East Kilbride.

Sitting in fifth in the table, they will be looking to inflict an eighth defeat in the league on their Dumfries and Galloway hosts.

Gretna 2008 have also won back-to-back games after defeating Gala Fairydean Rovers on Wednesday and Dalbeattie Star last weekend.

Oakley United v Musselburgh Athletic

East of Scotland Football League Premier Division

Musselburgh Athletic last five games: WDLWW

THE Liam Burns era at Musselburgh Athletic got off to the perfect start on Wednesday night.

A commanding 3-0 win over Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale finally ended the wait for three points at home.

The Olivebank side had enjoyed greater success on their travels under previous manager Joe Hamill.

Now, Burns and his team will be looking to continue that record as they travel to rock bottom Oakley United.

Seven defeats from seven contests has left the Fife side looking up the standings but the new manager and his team will be wary of dropping points at Blairwood Park.

East Lothian Courier: Haddington Athletic (maroon) face a trip to Sauchie in the search for three pointsHaddington Athletic (maroon) face a trip to Sauchie in the search for three points

Sauchie v Haddington Athletic

East of Scotland Football League Premier Division

Haddington Athletic last five games: LDWDL

TITLE-CHALLENGERS Linlithgow Rose proved too strong for Haddington Athletic in midweek.

Things do not get any easier for Scott Bonar’s side who face a trip to a Sauchie side sitting fourth in the table.

The Hi His have been inconsistent over their eight league contests with two wins and three defeats.

Haddington sit 11th in the table and still hold a cushion over the bottom three sides but three points would be a welcome boost.

East Lothian Courier: Preston Athletic (blue) are looking to secure three points at fellow promotion-chasers KinnoullPreston Athletic (blue) are looking to secure three points at fellow promotion-chasers Kinnoull

Kinnoull v Preston Athletic

East of Scotland Football League First Division

Preston Athletic last five games: WWLWL

ONLY a single goal separates Kinnoull and Preston Athletic near the top of the First Division.

Paul Currie’s side ended Dunbar United’s impressive start to the campaign last weekend to move into the promotion places.

The Pennypit side sit two points behind league leaders Luncarty but are the only team in the division to have played eight games.

Kinnoull have lost just one of their seven league games this campaign – losing out to Luncarty last time out.

Preston won in Perthshire last season and a positive result at Tulloch Park would put down a real marker this early in the campaign.

East Lothian Courier: Ormiston Primrose (black and white) are looking to end their winless run against Newburgh JuniorsOrmiston Primrose (black and white) are looking to end their winless run against Newburgh Juniors

Ormiston Primrose v Newburgh Juniors

East of Scotland Football League Second Division

Ormiston Primrose last five games: LDLLL

THE hunt for three points goes on for Ormiston Primrose, who welcome Newburgh Juniors to East Lothian.

The county side were thumped 7-1 by promotion-chasing Syngenta on Wednesday evening.

Syngenta have scored 33 goals in just eight games this campaign but Ormiston will not face the same level of firepower at New Recreation Park today (Saturday).

Newburgh sit three points better off than their rivals and Ormiston will need to improve defensively if they are to climb out of the relegation zone.
