EAST Lothian athletes finished on the podium at an “enjoyably challenging” hill race.

The organisers of the Cademuir Rollercoaster Hill Race welcomed runners on August 13.

The elevation and terrain is challenging but competitors also had to deal with the heatwave conditions in Peebles.

Both the junior and senior races took place on the open grassy slopes of the Cademuir Hill.

The junior race was 3km with a climb of 105 metres and Team East Lothian had two athletes taking part: Magnus Lawson and Cerys Wright. Both were competing in the Under-15 age category with Scottish Athletics.

Lawson had an amazing run and fought off some tough competition to finish first overall and win the race outright in 12 minutes and four seconds.

Cerys Wright also ran brilliantly and coped incredibly well with the elevation and heat to finish first girl, and an impressive fifth overall, in a time of 13 minutes and 38 seconds.

Angus Wright from Team East Lothian took part in the 6km senior race, competing in the under-20 age category.

With an elevation of 275m, most of the route took place on runnable grassy paths, but the final steep climb to the summit was a tough climb over rough grass.

Angus had a very strong performance, and had the speed and stamina to complete the 6k, despite the blazing sun, in a time of 26 minutes 24 seconds, and finish third overall.

Angus had a strong run representing Scotland in Saluzzo, Italy, at the start of the summer, where he finished in eighth position overall and was first Scotland runner in the international event.

His performance at Cademuir secured him another Scottish vest, and Angus will be representing Scotland in the Home Countries International which takes place in Ambleside on September 3.
