YOUNG athletes from East Lothian Swim Team (ELST) travelled north over the weekend to compete in the Scottish Summer Meet, held at the Aberdeen Aquatics Centre.

The event attracted the best swimmers from across the country, with ELST taking 26 swimmers up to the Granite City and returning home with a fantastic 32 individual medals.

The girls’ medal winners were as follows:

  • Eilidh Armstrong (16 years) – two silvers in the 50m and 100m backstroke events;
  • Tegan Black (15 years) – four medals in total: two golds (400m and 800m freestyle), one silver (200m freestyle) and one bronze (100m breaststroke);
  • Lauren Clark (17-18 years) – bronze in the 200m butterfly;
  • Anna Lawson (11-13 years) – gold and silver in the 50m and 100m freestyle events respectively;
  • Ava Marko (11-13 years) – bronze in the 100m butterfly;
  • Louisa Stoddart (17-18 years) – four medals: silver in the 400m freestyle and three bronze medals, in the 50m and 200m freestyle and the 400m individual medley (IM).

The boys had an equally impressive meet, the medallists being:

  • Ross Anderton (14 years) – six medals in total: three silvers in the butterfly events (50m, 100m and 200m) and three bronze medals in the freestyle (50m, 100m and 1,500m);
  • Conner Aspinall (11-13 years) – seven gold medals, which included a clean sweep of all the freestyle events (50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1,500m) and a win in the 200m IM event;
  • Calum Peebles (16 years) – gold and a silver in the 200m IM and 50m backstroke events respectively;
  • Zach Slater (15 years) – two golds and one silver in the 50m and 100m butterfly and the 400m freestyle events.

As well as the above medallists, the following swimmers swam extremely well to make individual finals in this national event, with many making multiple finals: Lucia Bivar Seguardo, Eilidh Fee, Emma Finlay, Grace Harley, Lewis Lothian, Luke Porteous, Kirsty Sievwright, Helen Stoddart and Alex Taylor.

Jamie Ward, ELST head coach, was delighted with all the swimmers’ efforts over the weekend.

He told Courier Sport: “Scottish Summer Meet marks the end of the season for a number of our athletes and is a benchmark we base our next season against.

“We have come away from Aberdeen delighted with the results but even more delighted with how our athletes showed great team support by cheering each other on throughout the meet.”
