IT WAS an impressive finale to the 2022 Lothian Leagues competition for Tranent Amateur Swimming Club (TASC).

The competition is a three-round event, with clubs from across the Lothians entering teams in different age groups.

The popular event had been on hiatus since 2019 due to Covid-19 restrictions but returned this year with restrictions now eased.

Tranent entered the final round with multiple age group teams battling at the top of the points tables.

The club’s younger members got the action under way in the morning session with the 8-9 years girls’ team securing a third-place finish and the 10-11 girls’ A team finishing second.

The bronze medal for the 8-9 girls was an impressive feat considering the team, consisting of the combination of Ailsa Harkness and Eilidh Robson, were up against clubs fielding teams of four swimmers, meaning they were unable to enter relay events.

The silver medal finish for the 10-11 girls was well earned, with 18 teams battling it out across the age group.

The team, made up across the three rounds of Georgia Cooper, Eilidh Fee, Grace Grady, Branna Kenny, Morven Kenny and Zoe Taylor, were impressive across the events and were well deserving of their podium finish.

There was also an impressive seventh-place finish for the club’s B team in this age group.

Their older teammates took to the pool in the afternoon session and there was more success, with the club’s 14 years and over girls’ A team taking victory in a tense battle across the session.

It was a great reward for the team, made up of Katie Anderton, Lori Joyce, Sophie Knox, Caitlin Peebles, Beth Taylor and Charlotte Wright, and is the first time the club has collected the trophy in this age group.

There were also fifth-place finishes for the 12-13 years boys’ and girls’ A team, with the girls’ B team finishing 13th and a ninth-place finish for the 14 years and over girls’ B team.

Ross Mathieson, Tranent head coach, said: “To be so competitive across each age group shows the depth in quality throughout our club squads and East Lothian Swim Team members.

“The Lothian Leagues is a very competitive event so to have three podium finishes, including a victory, is a fantastic achievement.

“We’re so proud of each swimmer for their performances and the support they have shown their teammates across each round.”
