HISTORY will be made as two East Lothian sides play their first ever competitive match with each other today (Saturday).
Ormiston host Dunbar United in one of two League Cup contests involving county teams.
Haddington Athletic make the trip to Lochgelly Albert in Group G while Musselburgh Athletic are the odd team out in the same group.
Tranent’s focus is on the Challenge Cup and they too are heading over the Forth as they travel to Dundonald Bluebell.
Finally, there is a vital league match for Preston Athletic, who make the shorter trip to Dalkeith, where they face Edinburgh South in First Division Conference B.
Each of the games kicks off at 2.30pm.
Match of the day
League Cup Group H
Ormiston v Dunbar United
Ormiston last five games: DLLLL
Dunbar United last five games: LLLDW
A FIRST-EVER meeting between Ormiston and Dunbar United takes place at New Recreation Park.
The hosts come into the contest boosted by a draw against Craigroyston in First Division Conference A last weekend.
The goalless draw was a match for the encounter between the two sides earlier in the campaign.
Meanwhile, Dunbar United will be looking to put their poor league form to one side.
The Seasiders are still looking for their first win in 2022 and will fancy their chances in this East Lothian derby.
Ormiston and Dunbar United are joined in the group by Stoneyburn and Whitehill Welfare, who play each other today, and Kennoway Star Hearts.
Whitehill Welfare sit bottom of the Premier Division while Kennoway Star Hearts and Stoneyburn are both First Division sides.
Kennoway Star Hearts sit fifth in First Division Conference A – the same division as Haddington Athletic and Ormiston – while Stoneyburn are eighth in the newly-formed First Division Conference X.
First Division Conference B
Edinburgh South v Preston Athletic
Preston Athletic last five games: LLWLW
THEY say a week is a long time in football but a fortnight must feel like a lifetime.
Two weeks ago, Preston Athletic were heading into a game with new league leaders Oakley United and looking to cut the gap at the top of the table.
Instead, they lost to a late goal and then went down to Burntisland Shipyard 3-2.
Now, they are looking to get back to winning ways and a trip to Dalkeith to face Edinburgh South.
Jack Lynch’s men still have First Division Conference B title glory in their own hands.
They trail Oakley by nine points but can go six points clear of them if they win their five games in hand.
However, they cannot afford many more slipups and come up against an Edinburgh South side who have already inflicted defeat upon them.
A win is much needed to keep Preston challenging at the top of the table.
Challenge Cup Fourth Round
Dundonald Bluebell v Tranent Juniors
Tranent Juniors last five games: WDWWL
UNBEATEN in four games, Tranent Juniors will be looking to extend that run when they travel to the Moorside Park home of Dundonald Bluebell.
The Belters are involved in a three-horse race with Linlithgow Rose and Penicuik Athletic at the top of the East of Scotland Football League Premier Division.
However, attention will switch to the Challenge Cup today as they take on fellow top flight side Dundonald Bluebell.
The two sides are due to meet for a second time in the league later this month, with Tranent having won 2-0 back in July.
The winners face a home tie against either Arthurlie or Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic in the next round.
League Cup Group G
Lochgelly Albert v Haddington Athletic
Haddington Athletic last five games: WWLWW
SCOTT Bonar’s men have bounced back in impressive fashion from their defeat to Leith Athletic.
A 5-0 win over Rosyth was followed by a 2-0 win over Oakley United one week ago.
Now, the bid for promotion to the Premiership is put on hold as they travel to Lochgelly Albert for the first time.
The Fife side are in First Division Conference B and sit third bottom of the table having won just four of their 21 games.
Haddington will go into the contest as favourites but will be looking to avoid any complacency.
Also in their group are Heriot-Watt University, who travel to Pumpherston, and Musselburgh Athletic.
Heriot-Watt University play their football in First Division Conference B while Pumpherston sit second bottom of First Division Conference X.
