ORMISTON boss Richie Weir has called on his team to keep hitting the back of the net after rediscovering their goalscoring touch.

Six goals in their last two league games have more than doubled their tally from the previous 13 encounters.

Saturday saw Weir’s men leading 3-1 away to Arniston Rangers before the Midlothian side fought back to secure a draw.

The Ormiston boss had mixed feelings about the result but said: “We are definitely heading in the right direction.

“It was always a problem scoring goals – we were creating lots of chances but just not putting them away.

“The two games against Tweedmouth Rangers (Ormiston lost 4-3) and Arniston Rangers, we have scored three goals in both games and not won either.

“Obviously, scoring goals helps win games and we are getting there, slowly progressing.”

The goals have also boosted the team at the other end of the pitch.

The New Recreation Park side have only kept two clean sheets in the league this campaign but finding the net more regularly will help out the defenders.

Weir said: “It takes a bit of pressure off the defence.

“They have had to keep clean sheets for us to get anything out of the games.

“If they do concede a goal, we have got that threat to get back into the game.

“We went 1-0 down against Arniston and rallied each other and went 3-1 in front.”

The draw at Gorebridge also lifted Ormiston above Craigroyston and off the bottom of the First Division Conference A table.

A trip to St Andrews United, who are only above Weir’s men on goal difference, on Saturday provides another opportunity.

The Fife club won in East Lothian in the King Cup in October but Weir was optimistic it could be his team triumphing this time.

He said: “We have played St Andrews twice this year – once in the cup and once in the league. Both have been close games and the team were failing to score then.

“Hopefully, we can put in a performance, push on and get the win.”
