MOTORCYCLE star Lewis Rollo is aiming to finish the season on a high and start next year on the front foot.

The National Superstock racer finished third in last year’s championship but has endured an inconsistent campaign this time around.

Sitting eighth in the championship standings with three races left, he is looking to wrap up the season in style to ensure he is ready for the next season.

The championship heads for Donington Park this weekend and Rollo was keen to build on a podium at the Leicestershire track earlier in the season.

He said: “It is one of those where you are only as good as your last result.

“The team are happy with me, they enjoy working with me and me with them. Hopefully, we will get something sorted out for next year.

“It is about finishing the year on a high and not just for myself. Obviously, it is nice to go into the winter with a couple of good results and to keep your confidence up but the team has worked so hard this year. They deserve good results and it would be nice to finish the year on a high and hopefully sign with them again.

“That puts us in a good place to start next year.”

Rollo, who lives between Gifford and Haddington, has fond memories of Donington.

The 22-year-old produced an impressive showing in the wet to finish on the podium earlier this year behind championship leader Tom Neave and Luke Mossey.

Rollo said: “I have never really had a favourite track but Donington has been good to me.

“I got my first win in National Superstock there and got a podium there this year.

“It has been a track that I have got on well with and for the Kawasaki it is quite a good track as well.

“Early on in the year, we had good pace but with problems could not quite get it together in the dry race.

“Hopefully, this weekend, we will hit the ground running, get a good practice on Friday, qualifying on the Saturday and two good races.”

This weekend’s race comes on the heels of two races at Oulton Park, where Rollo finished seventh and eighth.

Although the Lee Hardy Racing rider would have preferred to have been challenging at the front, he was satisfied with the performance.

He said: “To be honest, it was actually a good weekend because the last few rounds we have been struggling with a few mechanical issues.

“Going into Oulton Park after finding what was wrong, we got to have a weekend where we did not have any problems. The results were not the greatest position wise but we are going forward with the bike and it was actually a good weekend overall.”
