TRANENT Juniors will fly the flag for East Lothian in the second round of the Scottish Cup.

The Belters dumped East Stirlingshire out of the competition yesterday (Saturday), with a commanding 4-1 win.

Meanwhile, Preston Athletic’s Scottish Cup journey was ended by Stenhousemuir, who won 4-1, and there was late heartache for Haddington Athletic as Formartine United scored just a couple of minutes from time to progress.

At Foresters Park, a stunning first half saw the hosts through.

Adam Watson scored after just four minutes before Kayne Paterson doubled the lead on 18 minutes.

Ben Miller smashed home a third just after the half hour mark and Lewis Hawkins found the net on the half time whistle.

The visitors improved after the break and pulled one back through Jamie Dishington but it was not enough.

The draw for the next round takes place tomorrow (Monday) night.

Meanwhile, Jack Lynch’s Preston side were knocked out of the tournament at Ochilview.

Mark McGuigan opened the scoring before Jonathan Tiffoney doubled the advantage.

Preston would pull one back in the second half through Jonny Edmond and only the woodwork denied them a leveller.

However, the game was put to bed in the last 10 minutes as former Stranraer man McGuigan got his second and Jack Hodge scored with seconds left.

Millfield was hosting Scottish Cup football for the first time with Formartine United making the long journey south.

The scores were blank at half time before Stuart Smith scored for the visitors just two minutes after the restart.

Stewart O’Neill levelled things with four minutes to go but Formartine ensured there would be no extra time when Scott Lisle scored just three minutes later.
