THE son of a former Scottish internationalist boxer has celebrated success at the Scottish Novice Boxing Championships.
Conall Boardman, from Haddington, won gold in the 75kg elite category at the event at Ravenscraig.
The 19-year-old, the only member of East Lothian Boxing Club to enter the prestigious event, won all four of his bouts by unanimous decision to take the title.
In the opening round he beat Emmanuel Rubombora, of Fair City Boxing Club, before seeing off Cameron Knox of Mctaggart Scott Boxing Club in the quarter-finals.
And that set up a meeting with Damien Mackenzie of Inverness Boxing Club for a place in the final.
Boardman, whose dad David is a former light heavyweight multiple Scottish champion and Scottish internationalist, produced another superb display to make the final.
There he faced Jack Watson (KABO) and the ex-Knox Academy pupil was at his best to take the title.
Callum Colquhoun from the Haddington-based club was delighted with Boardman’s success.
He said: “Congratulations Conall on four superb bouts and your gold medal which was well deserved.”
A second Haddington resident, Liam Aitchison, also celebrated a gold medal at the championships.
Aitchison, who boxes for Chirnside, was the winner of the 63kg junior category.
He went straight into the final, and stopped Dylan Innes (McTaggart Scott) in the second round to take the title.
