COUNTY-BASED swimming sensation Stephen Clegg is off to Brazil this summer after earning a place in the Paralympic squad.

Clegg was named in Team GB's paralympics squad for the Rio Games earlier this week.

Clegg, from Musselburgh, will line up alongside the likes of Ollie Hynd whose recent IPC Swimming European Championships mean he is one of the few athletes in history to hold Paralympic, World, European and Commonwealth titles at the same time.

Selection for 21-year-old Stephen' completes a remarkable triumph for the Clegg family.

His older sister Libby was one of the stars of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow two years ago, while big brother James won bronze in the S12 100m freestyle at the London Paralympics in 2012.

Sister Libby tweeted: "Huge congratulations @stephenclegg95 on Rio selection! So proud of you!"

An impressive 31-strong squad has been named, and Chris Furber, British para-swimming national performance director, is confident they can produce medals in Brazil.

He said: "We have an exciting and capable team selected for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

“At British para-swimming we have work consistently on increasing the standards of our team which is reflected in the selection process and it’s a real positive to see 25 athletes achieving the time outright.

“The athletes know that the hard work doesn’t end at selection and I am confident that every one of them will go back and focus on achieving the necessary gains in their training and be ready to perform at their best in Rio.”

Rob Greenwood, British para-swimming head coach, said: "We created a clear ethos for the team and that has led to athletes really aspiring to be part of that.

"It’s a really focused group of athletes and there is no complacency at all in terms of being selected and job done.

"There is a focus around going to the Games and delivering life time best performances.”

Local clubs hailed Clegg's inclusion through social media.

Tranent Amateur Swimming Club (TASC) tweeted: "Massive congratulations to Stephen Clegg!! Hard work paying off!," while Haddington and District Swimming Club (H&DASC) added: "Congratulations to Stephen Clegg from all of us at H&Dasc
