I was fascinated to read the report from 50 years ago in last week’s Peeps from the Past about the search for the stolen Provost’s chain in Cockenzie and Port Seton.
The diver involved was my late husband Alex Chambers.
I remember the event clearly.

Alex dived in the same spot off Cockenzie several more times when the underwater visibility was better but could not find the chain.
Many years later, I happened to be in the foyer of John Muir House in Haddington.
There, in a display cabinet, was the Provost’s chain. I have no idea where it was found.
It would seem that the tip-off that Alex received was a red herring.
I wonder if anyone was ever convicted of stealing the chain?
