GYM-GOERS across the county are starting to see the gains from a £240,000 overhaul of three leisure facilities.
The gyms at North Berwick Sports Centre and Meadowmill Sports Centre have now reopened following major upgrades, while work is currently under way at the gym at Dunbar Leisure Pool.
The three facilities are being fitted with new state-of-the-art Pulse fitness equipment as well as refreshed workout spaces, including new flooring, televisions and training accessories.
The improvements are part of a £240,000 investment by East Lothian Council in facilities managed by Enjoy Leisure.
Bill Axon, chief executive of Enjoy Leisure, said: “We’re all very much looking forward to the refurbishment of three of our gym facilities.
“These spaces will feel refreshed with new layouts and equipment, giving our members and visitors even more choice when it comes to staying active.
“We’ve seen a fantastic response to the gym extension at Aubigny Sports Centre in Haddington over the past year and this continued investment by Enjoy Leisure and East Lothian Council will help more people across East Lothian continue to enjoy the social, physical and mental benefits of activity for years to come.
“We’re incredibly proud of our partnership with East Lothian Council. This strong collaboration and ongoing investment in facility upgrades have been instrumental in revitalising community sports centres, including the Loch Centre [in Tranent, which is currently closed for a year for work to take place]."
Work at Dunbar Leisure Pool began after its gym closed on October 26, with the facility due to reopen on Monday.
The rest of the leisure centre is remaining open as normal while work takes place, while members can use gyms at other Enjoy Leisure facilities.
Additional gym inductions and equipment refresher sessions will also be offered when the revamped facilities reopen.
Councillor Colin McGinn, cabinet spokesperson for community wellbeing and sport, countryside and leisure, said: “Residents in East Lothian can already benefit from excellent sports and recreation facilities across the county and we’re proud to make this investment in three of these facilities to make them even better.
“Working with our partners at Enjoy Leisure, the council is committed to providing high-quality gyms which can help people keep fit and active, make healthy choices, and improve their wellbeing."
Musselburgh Sports Centre is due to be the next to benefit, with gym upgrades planned for 2027.
