THE Bonnie Badger has served its final customers after closing today for a major refurbishment that will see it return next year to its historic Golf Inn name.

The award-winning Gullane hotel and restaurant, which was acquired by Buzzworks Hospitality earlier this year, is entering "an exciting new chapter" and will reopen in early 2027 as part of Buzzworks' House Collection.

In a message today to customers, the business said: "After nearly eight years as The Bonnie Badger, we're getting ready for an exciting new chapter, returning to our roots as The Golf Inn.

"A name that holds a special place in Gullane's history and means a great deal to many in the community."

The social media post added that the pub, restaurant and bedrooms would all undergo a significant makeover, promising "a fresh new look, new menus and a completely refreshed experience throughout".

The closure follows confirmation earlier this month that East Lothian Council had approved alterations to the Main Street premises. Plans included the creation of five additional hotel bedrooms, increasing accommodation capacity from 12 rooms to 17.

Two new bedrooms are planned at ground-floor level, replacing existing lounge and private dining spaces, while three further bedrooms will be created from former staff accommodation on the first floor.

When Buzzworks revealed plans to restore the building's historic Golf Inn identity in July, it said the venue would close later this year for refurbishment before reopening following extensive investment. The latest announcement confirms work is now under way, although an exact reopening date has yet to be revealed.

Buzzworks already operates Herringbone North Berwick and Lido Musselburgh, while its latest East Lothian venture, The Bass & Barrel in North Berwick, is due to open next month.
