EXPLOSIVE experts were called out after an artillery shell was discovered on a beach this morning (Monday) .
The 20lb shell was found on Broadsands Beach, to the west of North Berwick, at about 9am.
North Berwick Coastguard was called and found the item before liaising with EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) experts.
A team attended and a 100-metre cordon was established.
A spokesperson for the Coastguard confirmed that the shell was x-rayed and removed for safe disposal.
They said: "Thank you to the first informant for the notification.
"If you find an item you have concerns about on the coastline, don’t try exposing it by moving or digging, call 999 and ask for Coastguard."
Meanwhile, an army spokesperson said: “We can confirm that an Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal team from 521 Sqn, 11 EOD&S Regiment RLC, responded to an incident in North Berwick at the request of HM Coastguard on September 21.
"The item was identified to be an 18lb solid shot, which was safely recovered to troop location.”
