IMPROVED safety at sea is on the horizon thanks to a boost in funding.
Dunbar Coastal Rowing Club has received a £1,000 donation from Cala Homes (East) to replace and upgrade essential emergency equipment.
The funding is expected to cover the cost of two personal locator beacons, four lifejackets and two first aid kits, all intended to improve crew safety during outings.
Kenny Maule, secretary of Dunbar Coastal Rowing Club, said: "This donation will make a very real difference to the safety of our crews and means we can replace several important pieces of equipment at the same time.
"The personal locator beacons are particularly valuable because they give us another straightforward way to raise the alarm and help pinpoint our location, while the additional lifejackets mean both boats can be properly equipped when they are out together."
Lifejackets require periodic replacement, so the new equipment will help address a potential shortage of lifejackets when both of the club’s boats are on the water at the same time.
The upgraded first aid kits will also ensure crews have access to up-to-date medical supplies in case of emergencies on the water.
