A POTENTIALLY life-saving device has been installed at a village’s railway station.
Steps have been taken for the defibrillator to be put in place at the station in Drem.
Alasdair Muir, who represents the village on Gullane Area Community Council, was pleased to see the device in place.
He stressed the importance of such a device, which gives a high-energy shock to the heart of someone who is in cardiac arrest.
It was felt that the station was a central point in the village and it made sense for the defibrillator to be located there.
He said: “It is just a nice, positive thing.
“I hope we never have to use it but that is the irony of these things.
“You never know and it is good that we have got one.”
More than 100 life-saving defibrillators have been installed at ScotRail stations across the country since 2018.
Graeme Baillie, ScotRail safety and sustainability director, said: “Safety is at the heart of everything we do, and having access to a defibrillator can make a life-saving difference in an emergency.
“The defibrillator at Drem is part of a wider rollout of these machines across Scotland’s railway – all of which are registered on the national network, ensuring emergency services can quickly identify their location when every second counts.”
