A TRANENT man who carried out a campaign of abusive behaviour against his former partner has been released from prison and placed under the supervision of the social work department.
Scott McLean committed the offences at his Northfield home between April 23 and June 25 last year.
The abuse saw McLean injure the woman by grabbing her to the body and forcing her up against furniture, as well as punching her to the head.
The 36-year-old also prevented the victim from leaving his property by standing in front of a door and then barricading the front door with furniture that he had thrown down a set of stairs.
McLean was remanded in custody when he pleaded guilty to the charges last month and was brought back to court for sentencing last Wednesday.
Solicitor Murray Robertson told the court that McLean had been using drugs when he committed the offences and he had been using his time in custody to detox.
Mr Robertson added: “He understands this was no way to behave and the relationship is now at an end.”
The court heard that the location of the offending was McLean’s own tenancy and was still open to him to return there as the woman no longer resided at the property.
Sheriff Alison Stirling sentenced McLean to a community payback order as a direct alternative to custody and placed him under the supervision of the local social work team for 12 months.
