East Lothian Council received no objections from members of the public regarding plans for 56 storage containers on land at Gilmerton Camp, near Gilmerton House.
The Trustees Of Sir David Alexander Kinloch's Trust, who are behind the approved plans, have owned and managed the site since the 1960s, when the land and buildings changed from MOD to business, general industry and storage/distribution.
According to the plans: “According to the estate archives, the camp was built in approximately 1942 to compliment the airfield (now Museum of Flight).
“In the 1960s, the MOD gave up the lease and handed back the site to the estate.
“The site immediately changed use and became storage for agricultural produce, workshops and industrial units.”
The development is part of the “ongoing business diversification on the estate”.
Each of the containers would measure 2.4m x 6m x 2.6m.
Planning officials noted that the containers would not be visible from outwith the estate.
