Prestonpans carpenter reaches semi-final of national competition

Kevin Crawford is one of 26 tradespeople still in the running for Screwfix Top Tradesperson 2026, a title that comes with a £20,000 prize bundle of tools, technology and training.

Mr Crawford said: "Winning Screwfix Top Tradesperson would provide a platform to amplify the work I am already doing to support and develop the next generation of tradespeople.

"As a joiner, I am passionate about passing on skills through hands-on, site-based training and inspiring more people, both male and female, to consider a career in construction while challenging outdated perceptions of the industry."

Mr Crawford, who has worked as a carpenter for 22 years and runs his own business, K Crawford Ltd, stood out to judges for his work to inspire the next generation of tradespeople.

He was selected from more than 900 entries across the UK and Ireland.

Mr Crawford said: "Making the semi-finals means a huge amount to me.

"I'm incredibly proud to represent Prestonpans and show the quality of tradespeople we have here.

"I've worked hard to build my career, so being recognised at this level is really special.

"I'm looking forward to sharing my story and hopefully doing Prestonpans proud in the final."

The competition aims to celebrate outstanding tradespeople who demonstrate not only technical skill, but also dedication, leadership and a commitment to supporting others in the industry.

Ten finalists will be selected to compete at the live final, taking place at Screwfix LIVE next month, with the winner entering the company's hall of fame.
