Live beach painting and art exhibition in North Berwick

Pascale Rentsch RSW, renowned for painting en plein air (outdoors), will set up her brushes on West Beach from 10.30am to give visitors the opportunity to experience a live painting session in action.

Swiss-born Ms Rentsch, who now lives in East Lothian, is a member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour with her work known for capturing the changing atmosphere of the coastline and countryside.

The free display marks the opening of a summer exhibition and open studio presented by Clare Blatherwick Jewellery, on Station Hill, in collaboration with The Scottish Gallery during Fringe by the Sea (FBTS).

Alongside Ms Rentsch's paintings, the exhibition will include jewellery by Dr Malcolm Appleby MBE FRSE, a leading figure in contemporary British silver-smithing and engraving whose career has spanned more than five decades.

He has become internationally recognised for his intricate pieces, held in public and private collections worldwide, and like Ms Rentsch, he draws inspiration from the natural world in his work.

The event will also open the doors to Clare Blatherwick’s studio, where visitors can learn more about her work in jewellery remodelling, bespoke commissions, antique jewellery and gemstones.

Clare Blatherwick, of the eponymous jeweller, said she was "delighted" to be in collaboration for this "special summer exhibition".

She added: "Bringing together Pascale Rentsch’s extraordinary paintings, Malcolm Appleby’s remarkable jewellery and an insight into my own studio world feels like a very special way to celebrate craftsmanship, creativity and place during FBTS.

The summer exhibition and open studio runs from Friday, July 31, until Sunday, August 9, with the exhibition open from 12pm to 5pm.
