THE school bell has rung for the final time for a departing headmaster.
Olly Langton finished up at Belhaven Hill School in Dunbar last Thursday.
The former headmaster, who took on the role in 2020, thanked the community for their support and wished his successor, Neil Tomlin, well.
Mr Langton said: “After six incredible and formative years for us as a family, today was our final day at Belhaven.
“We have loved our time at this wonderful school by the sea: it is the most beautiful place for children to grow up, learn and form lifelong companions, and Rosie and I feel so fortunate that our three have, and will continue to have, the extraordinary joy of a Belhaven education.
“Thank you to all of the Belhaven families, staff and governors who have given us their trust and support.
“It continues to mean the world to us.
“We hope that everyone is having a wonderful summer, wherever you are, and are looking forward to the new term in September and welcoming Neil and Eugenie Tomlin as warmly as you did the Langtons back in the summer of 2020.”
Mr Tomlin was confirmed as the school’s eighth headmaster shortly before Christmas last year.
Currently, he is headmaster at Hall Grove in Surrey.
When he was announced as the new headmaster, he described Belhaven Hill School as “such a remarkable school”.
He said: “The more we learn about Belhaven, the more deeply we feel that we have found somewhere truly special.
“It is also hugely important to us that Belhaven continues to place great value on the seemingly small things: good manners, behaviour, kindness and strength of character.
“These principles may appear modest, but together they define a culture and shape young people for life.”
Previously, Mr Tomlin had a distinguished 24-year career in the British Army and also represented Scotland’s under-18s rugby team.
