AN EAST Lothian duo produced a stunning comeback to lift a national pétanque title.

Forty-two teams from across Scotland took part in the 2026 Scottish Pétanque Association (SPA) Mixed Doubles Championship at Stirling Wolves' new pistes.

Mattie Dickie, of East Lothian Petanque Club, and partner Emma Montgomery, who is a member of Inverleith Petanque Club, played seven matches before reaching the final against Jack Rankin, of Ayr Pétanque Club, and Laura Adam, of Fochabers Pétanque Club.

The final looked to be slipping away when the East Lothian duo, who live in Haddington, found themselves trailing 7-1 but they refused to be beaten.

A superb five-point end turned the match on its head, allowing them to fight back to level at 11-11.

With confidence growing, they continued to pick up points end by end before securing the two decisive points to complete a remarkable comeback and become 2026 SPA Mixed Doubles champions.
