A DRIVER has been faced with “a bit of a nightmare” after her car was vandalised and covered with what is believed to be glue.
A Macmerry resident is now warning her neighbours about taking steps to protect their vehicles following the early-morning incident.
The owner of the car, who wished to remain anonymous, parked it on the street last Thursday evening, as they have done for 20 years without issue.
However, a family member said that they received a call the following morning to tell them that the vehicle had been vandalised.
When they went to have a look, they found the roof and bonnet “smeared with what looks like Unibond glue” or similar.
The incident was reported to police, who are now investigating, and neighbours have shared Ring doorbell footage which they believe shows a car in the area at about 2am on Friday.
A family member said: “This was distressing for [them] as to who would do this.
“It has been a bit of a nightmare.”
It is thought that if the substance had been left for even another hour before it was cleaned, it would have not been possible to remove all traces; as it is, some remains on the vehicle, with lines still on the windscreen.
The situation has been “an inconvenience” for the driver, who will now need to take the car to the garage and meet the associated costs.
They are now hoping that others in the area will take care so that a similar incident does not occur again.
The family member added: “I really want the people in the village to be extra vigilant at night and park under streetlights or in view of cameras.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “On Friday, July 17, we received a report of vandalism to a vehicle in the Macmerry area.
“Enquiries are ongoing.”
