A DAY of golf, celebration and fundraising will be held in memory of Aiden Hoenigmann next week.
The annual tournament will round off at Ross High RFC, where Aiden was captain, and bring together many of the people whose lives he touched.
He passed away in January 2024 at the age of 27 unexpectedly, to what is now believed to be Brugada syndrome, a rare inherited heart rhythm disorder - one of his siblings has since tested positive for the condition.
In recent months, a charity has been set up in his name by mum Fiona, hoping to bring screenings to Aiden's home town of Tranent and throughout East Lothian so that heart conditions can be detected before it is too late.
His condition was unknown at the time and for about two years following his death, and the upcoming memorial golf day next Friday (July 31) will raise money for the cause.
Teams will enjoy morning rolls and hot drinks at Royal Musselburgh Golf Club in Prestonpans from 8.30am, then tee off an hour later.
The game will be played in a Texas Scramble format, in which each member tees off and then the team decides which shot they will all play from for the next shot, continuing until the ball is holed.
The team handicap will be 10 per cent of the team total and winners will receive their trophy later in the day at a prizegiving ceremony.
Following the game, a meal will be held at Ross High Rugby Club from 3pm and a raffle will be held.
Beginning at 5pm to round out the day, evening entertainment will be enjoyed from Chris Karpacz and a silent auction will take place, raising as much money as possible in Aiden’s name.
