A POPULAR fixture in the county's running calendar returns for another sell-out year as hundreds prepare to tackle the North Berwick Law Race tomorrow (Wednesday).
The annual North Berwick Law Race will see around 350 participants take on the challenging 5.3km hill course.
Entry to the event proved highly sought-after, with all places snapped up within an hour of going on sale.
The race, which dates to the 1950s, begins at North Berwick Harbour before runners make their way through Quality Street and up to the Law, before climbing 187 metres to the summit and descending back to the harbour for the finish.
This year’s race will raise funds for the new North Berwick Surf Life Saving Club, which provides young people with training in surf lifesaving skills.
Runners will be set off at 7.30pm by fundraiser and Blood Bikes volunteer Joe Cairney, who recently completed an 'Everest' of the Law across three days in aid of Blood Bikes Scotland.
He said: “I’m honoured to be standing in front of 350 top athletes taking part in this year’s North Berwick Law Hill Race, and privileged to be starting them off as they make their way to the summit and back to the harbour at blistering pace.
“Well done to every participant, and thank you to all spectators motivating them on, with a special thank you to all the volunteers and organising committee for their hard work making this event possible.”
Registration opens at 6pm at the Yacht Club, with runners asked to be ready at the start line by 7.20pm for a race briefing from organiser Jeremy Milne.
A range of prizes will be awarded across male, female, junior, veteran and local categories, with presentations expected to take place in the harbour area shortly after the race culminates at around 8.30pm.
In addition to "fabulous medals", sponsored by North Berwick business centre The Lighthouse, generous cash prizes have been provided by Paris Steele, county law firm, along with a host of gifts donated by local businesses.
Participants will also be rewarded at the finish line, with a free non-alcoholic beer from Jump Ship Brewing and ice cream from the North Berwick Fry available on presentation of a race number.
