Ranger of activities available in Musselburgh for over-50s

A VARIETY of activities can be sampled in Musselburgh as part of Ageing Well East Lothian’s programme, including line dancing, traditional Chinese exercises and walking football.

The Ageing Well project, a partnership between NHS Lothian and East Lothian Council, aims to maintain and promote the physical and mental health, wellbeing and quality of life for people over 50 in East Lothian through a list of activities.

The Warblers who sing for lung health meet on Mondays, 2.30-3.30pm at Musselburgh East Community Learning Centre. It costs £4/2 or whatever people can afford.

A free ‘Walk and Talk’ group meets outside Musselburgh Library on the first Monday of each month, 10am-11am.

Line dancing for beginners can be enjoyed at the Fisherrow Centre, 1-2pm on Tuesdays at a cost of £4.

The traditional Chinese exercises of Tai Chi and Qigong are taught at the Fisherrow Centre on Thursdays, 10-11am and 11.15am-12.15pm. The classes, which are held in blocks, cost £4.

Also on Thursdays, Senior Mo(ve)ments, offering simple dance exercise, takes place 11.30am-12.30pm at Musselburgh East Community Learning Centre.

Free Nordic walking classes for beginners are held in blocks, 10-11am on Thursdays. Specially designed poles are used to enhance the natural walking experience.

Other groups which meet in the Musselburgh area are walking football at Rosehill High School, Wallyford, on Mondays, 7.30-8.30pm in the summer and 8-9pm in the winter. The cost is £25 every six months.

Sports enthusiasts get together to reminisce at Sporting Memories, a free group which meets in Musselburgh Rugby Club on Wednesdays, 10.30am-noon.
