A BUSY section of the A1 is set to shut overnight for a week later this month.

The westbound (northbound) carriageway of the A1 will be shut between Haddington and Tranent from Tuesday, June 25, until Monday, July 1, between 7.30pm and 6am on weekday nights.

The restrictions are to allow resurfacing works on more than 1,600 metres of road, carried out by BEAR Scotland on behalf of Transport Scotland.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s south-east network manager, said: "It is essential for the safety of the workforce and the public that we close the carriageway while resurfacing work takes place.

"We'll do this at night to minimise any disruption; however, please allow a few extra minutes for your journey if you do need to travel on the A1 on these nights."

On June 25, 26 and 29, the A1 will be closed westbound between Oaktree Junction and Gladsmuir Junction.

A diversion will be in place via the A199, adding about two minutes to journeys.

On June 30 and July 1, the closure will move to between Gladsmuir Junction and Bankton Junction.

The diversion will start from Abbotsview Junction, using the A199, A6137, B1377 and A198, and will add about 10 minutes to journey times.

Emergency services will have access through the works at all times.

All works are weather-dependent and may be postponed if conditions are poor.
