Ormiston Primrose are taking steps to gain their Scottish Football Association (SFA) licence, which would open the door to playing in the country’s top football cup competition.
Now, their hopes have been boosted after East Lothian Council gave the green light for floodlights at the club’s New Recreation Park home.
Richie Weir, who has played for and managed the club, felt that things were progressing in the right direction, with work set to start within a matter of weeks on a covered enclosure at the ground.
The club’s vice-chairman said: “We have had a lot of red tape to get through with the floodlights, just with the area we are in, which took a bit longer to get through.
“Now, we have a start date for the dig out for the covered enclosure.
“That may change but we are hoping that will start near the end of June.”
A total of four floodlights, measuring 18 metres in height, are planned for the ground.
No objections from members of the public were sent to East Lothian Council.
However, there was one letter questioning how often the floodlights would be switched on.
Planning permission was given with four conditions, including limiting the “light trespass” onto the windows of neighbouring properties.
With the latest hurdle overcome, the club also has permission in place for a covered enclosure beside the pitch.

Originally, it had been hoped that the structure could be in place for the start of the new season.
Mr Weir said: “I would say that it is a very big push for the start of the season but we will just work around contractors to see when they can get it done.
“For the SFA licence, there are certain deadlines to meet.
“November is normally one of the first audits where they come and make sure you have got certain processes in the programme.
“We are hoping to have it all done and dusted long before November.”

In the 2025/26 season, 132 teams, ranging from Wick Academy in the far north of Caithness to Tweedmouth Rangers on the English Border, took part in the tournament, which was won by Celtic.
Currently, Ormiston Primrose play in the fourth tier of the East of Scotland Football League pyramid.
Ormiston are currently the only one of East Lothian's six senior football clubs not to take part in the Scottish Cup, with Musselburgh Athletic, Tranent, Dunbar United and Haddington Athletic joining Preston Athletic in the famous competition in recent seasons.
