DELICIOUS chocolates, a hot drink and a good book – what could be better?
Now, people in East Lothian are being given the chance to enjoy all three with the launch of a new book club.
The Tipsy Truffle, on Dunbar High Street, is launching its own book group next month.
Julie Watt, who runs the business alongside daughter Katie, explained how the idea came about.
She said: “Rebecca Roberts of Night Owl Books had hosted a couple of book groups here and they were books themed around chocolate.
“In my head, I thought it would be lovely to have a book group here meet on a regular basis, like a community event to get people together.
“I thought ‘let’s see if I can do this’ and this is a wee experiment to see if people are interested.”
The first gathering is due to take place in the High Street business from 7pm on June 10.
On the night, readers will discuss ‘The Language of Food’, a historical novel about Eliza Acton, a poet who becomes a revolutionary cookery writer, and her partnership with her maid Ann Kirkby, in the 1830s.
The debut book has been suggested by Rebecca, from the East Linton bookshop.
Chocolates and a hot drink will also be provided on the night, with hopes it can become a regular feature on the social calendar.
A social media post has been created to check for interest and posters are being put up.
Julie, who lives in the town, having previously operated a shop in West Lothian, said: “People can come in and have a nice tea or coffee, choose a chocolate from the cabinet and there will be some chocolates on the table.
“It is a book club but with chocolates thrown in.”
