When listed for sale for offers over £200,000, the property on Church Street was said to be suitable to be converted into a wide range of commercial uses or transformed instead for residential use.
John Dunton of Port Seton has now submitted an application for the building to be used as storage for his house clearance business.
It offers valuation of house content, arrangement of the sale of goods, organisation of removals and cleaning of the property.
The application asks for a change of use from Class 10 to Class 6, storage and distribution, with no other changes to the property.
It would not be open to the public as such and the team behind the company, including Mr Dunton and his three employees, would “only be there occasionally while dropping off or picking stuff up”.
According to documents with the application, he may look to take on another employee to work part time if he was successful with the property.
The property features a sizeable main hall which would be used for storage, as well as a kitchen, office and four WCs.
The Tranent Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, registered as a charity in 1981, previously used the hall as a place of worship and meetings.
The building was listed for sale in January by McEwan Fraser Legal.
