A TALKING newspaper for blind and visually impaired people is seeking a new controller.

The East Lothian Messenger, a registered charity managed by volunteers, produces a weekly 90-minute audio recording of selected items from the East Lothian Courier and the Musselburgh Courier.

These recordings are then distributed on USB sticks to listeners in various parts of East Lothian.

The team currently comprises five technical controllers, each leading a group of four to six readers.

Teams record on Friday afternoons from about 1pm to 5pm every five weeks throughout the year.

After 32 years of service, the newspaper is looking to bring in some fresh talent this year – specifically, a controller for one of its recording teams.

The prospective controller would be mentored by technical manager Allen Angus, who will provide training on the system, which uses a mixer connected to a laptop.

Anyone computer literate, free on Friday afternoons and interested in the role should contact East Lothian Messenger co-ordinator Veronica Wallace on 07879 870232.
